Building plans to be digitised in Ahmedabad
April 19, 2010 – 11:12 am |

Ahmedabad:

The common refrain of files gone missing would no more be an excuse for civic officials.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is all set to digitise the approved final building plans in the city.

At present, the time-consuming and laborious task of searching for approved building plans will soon be made a quick affair with the help of the new initiative. AMC has taken up a one-year pilot project to digitalise the approved plans from 2005.

The new system will also enable the civic administration to cut down on corruption and inaccuracies. Chairman, town planning and estate management committee, Anil Patel says, “The initiative is to simplify the cumbersome and time consuming system through e-governance initiatives. It will also ensure a transparency in the civic governance, after the plan is approved it will stored for posterity.”

After approval, architect will have to submit plot plan, photo of the building site and drawing of the building plan in Autocad software which will be later stored in the main computer server.

Deputy municipal commissioner and incharge of town planning, AMC, UC Padia said, “After implementation of the project, the digitised records will make accessing plans quiet handy.”

However, AMC’s ambitious plan to approve building plans with the help of specially-developed software online has been on backburner for more than a year.

Under the pending project, the software will check different aspects of the building plan with the rules, scrutinise the applications and generate information on the extent of violation and defects in the plan.

Padia said, “The work order for the project was given to a firm based in South India. They still have to come up with the software based on the existing General Development Control Regulation (GDCR) applied in the state.”
